CNN —Hollywood films of diverse genres have one point in common — they’re all about the most important person in the universe. That most important person could be an amnesiac assassin fighting a mysterious government conspiracy, or some guy (or girl) seeking true love. They are the main character; everyone else is secondary. The goal of life is success and self-actualization as the main character of your own dream. He’s the most important person in a whole range of familiar narratives, all crammed haphazardly into a 90-minute run time.

But this was almost the end of something for “Minx.” HBO Max, which ran the first season in 2022, canceled the show as the second was finishing production, leaving fans holding an empty brown wrapper. Season 1, in which Joyce started Minx with the low-rent pornographer Doug Renetti (Jake Johnson), was a rough ride; its raunchy pop history and sitcommy odd-couple high jinks didn’t completely mesh. But I’d rather watch a show that does an exciting thing inconsistently than one that does a dull thing well. The eight new episodes don’t entirely clean up its freewheeling mess, but they make up for it in verve and enthusiasm. “Minx” is a racy, smart snapshot, and you just have to accept certain blemishes unretouched.

CNN —After a breathtaking debut in 2018’s Oscar-winning animated “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse,” Miles Morales is back for more universe-crossing adventures. The first trailer for “Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse” dropped on Tuesday, starting off with a contemplative moment between Morales – one of multiple Spider-Men throughout the multiverse – talking to his mother Rio as they look out on a view of New York City. Actor Shameik Moore is returning to supply the voice of Morales, as is Luna Lauren Vélez in the role of Rio, Hailee Steinfeld as Gwen Stacy/Spider-Gwen and Jake Johnson as Peter Parker.
